Both the girls’ and the boys’ varsity swim teams placed second at the Justin Carr Relays, the Wolverines’ first meet of the year, March 1.
Saturday’s meet was the first of the annual swim meets dedicated to Justin Carr ’14, who died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in February 2013. Carr was a member of the swim team throughout his time at Harvard-Westlake. The event opened with words from Carr’s parents, Susan and Darrell, followed by a played recording of Carr singing the national anthem.
In the teams’ second place finishes, Colin Lynch ’14 set a school record in the boys’ 100-meter freestyle, clocking at 47.12 seconds.
At the meet’s conclusion, the teams were presented with a plaque containing a picture of Carr swimming drawn by art teacher Marianne Hall, as well as Carr’s signature, to commemorate the relays.
The swim teams will next compete at Saugus March 11.
