After splitting the league series with Crespi, the Wolverines were unable to break the tie in their favor during playoffs. The Wolverines fell to the Celts 7-9 in the quarterfinals yesterday evening, effectively ending their season and quest for a Los Angeles County championship.
Unlike the previous two matchups, the Wolverines were unable to lead at any point in the game. The Celts jumped to a quick 3-0 after the first quarter. Brooks Hudgins ’14 and Jack Temko ’14 each scored in the second quarter to make the game 3-2. The game wasn’t tied up until the end of the second half, with Hudgins tying the score at 4-4. Two quick consecutive goals by Crespi made the score 6-4 at the half. Active efforts by the Wolverine offense were made in the second half, but the Celts maintained their two-goal lead until the end of the game.
Crespi joins Loyola as the only Mission League teams still alive in playoffs.
