After being throned CIF Champions and qualifying for 12 events in the CIF Masters May 30, the track and field team was able to advance in five events for the State Prelims June 6 at Buchanan High School.
For the girls’ team, Big Red Female Athlete of the Year Courtney Corrin ’16 was crowned long jump champion again after breaking a tiebreaker with a jump of 19-3/4, while Efe Agege ’14 and Alex Florent ’15 were both able to qualify for the State Prelims with a 39 feet triple jump and a 5-5 high jump respectively. Agege entered the final round in seventh place before notching on a lifetime best leap and setting the Wolverine school record to qualify for the State Prelims for the first time in three years.
The Wolverines also qualified for the 4 x 100 relay, which featured Shea Copeland ’15, Francesca Walker ’16, Big Red Female Breakout Athlete of the Year Imani Cook-Gist ’15 and Corrin at a time of 47.32.
In his final season on the boys’ track and field team, David Manahan ’14 captured first place in the boys’ 800 meter race with a time of 1:52.96. Manahan was the only male to advance to the CIF Masters and will continue to compete at Buchanan High School Friday in the State Prelims.
