Harvard-Westlake overwhelmed St. Paul by a score of 45-0 tonight. With the win, the Wolverines clinched a playoff spot and will return to the postseason for the first time since 2012. The win improved the team’s record to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Angelus League.
The senior class was celebrated before the game as part of Senior Night, and many seniors continued their celebration throughout the game, as the senior class played a large role in propelling the team to its dominating victory.
“My first year as an assistant was when the seniors were freshman,” Head Coach Scot Ruggles said. “It’s great to see the success they have had and it’s hard to put into words how much respect these guys deserve.”
On the defensive side of the ball Desmond Butler ’15 returned a fumble for a touchdown and Zeph Williams ’15 and Jeremy Tepper ’15 recorded sacks.
“It was a great game for our seniors on Senior Night,” defensive tackle Williams said. “This class has been through a lot and we’ve all worked so hard to get to where we are. It was awesome to play in front of the Fanatics at home and blow out St. Paul.”
Offensively, running back Garrett Robinson ’15, who ecplised the 1,000-yard mark in last week’s win over Salesian, scored a 76-yard rushing touchdown for the first score of the game. Senior wide receivers Cole Fletcher ’15 and Ian Green ’15 recorded their first touchdown of the season. Running back Carter Begel ’17 and quarterback Marshal Cohen ’15 also added rushing touchdowns.
“I’m excited to see what we can do in the playoffs,” Tepper said. “I’m confident we can get a ring.”
The team will play next Friday in the first round of the playoffs.
