Irvine scored the first and last goals of the Wednesday’s match, but the Harvard-Westlake boys’ water polo team scored the 23 goals in between in the 23-2 rout at Copses Family Pool.
Irvine struck first with a goal off a set play a minute and a half into the first quarter, which woke up the Wolverines, who then applied a smothering field defense for the rest of the game. By the end of the first quarter the score was 5-1.
Irvine’s second goal came late in the fourth quarter after starting goalie Anthony Ridgley ’15 was given a 30 second exclusion.
The win moves the Wolverines into the CIF Southern Section Divison 1 quarterfinal match against Orange Lutheran Nov. 15. A coin toss will be used to determine where the game will be played, as both teams in the matchup were at home in the first round.
