Going into last night’s game against Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, the final league game of the season, the girls’ soccer team maintained an undefeated record in the Mission League.
On Ted Slavin Field, in front of all of the Fanatics and parents in attendance for their Senior Night, the Wolverines successfully finished off their spotless league season, trouncing FSHA 7-0 in the process.
Center forward and Ohio State commit Courtney Gazmarian ’16 contributed to the Wolverines’ win in a big way, starting off the scoring bonanza with a diesel in the first few minutes of the game. Gazmarian put up three goals overall, scoring a hat trick, and the other two Courtneys, Courtney Corrin ’16 and Princeton commit Courtney O’Brien ’15, contributed a goal apiece as well. Talia Wazana ’15 and Ariana Miles ’18 scored the other two goals.
The FSHA Tologs seemed to have come to play in the first fifteen minutes of the game, when the game was pretty even, but it was all downhill after Gazmarian scored for the first time. Wazana scored minutes later, and then the dominance that the Wolverines have demonstrated all season returned.
By halftime, the Wolverines maintained their 2-0 lead, but the girls scored shot after shot during the second frame. O’Brien scored in the 48th minute, and Gazmarian flew down the right side to boot her second her goal of the night immediately afterward.
The Wolverines demonstrated overwhelming late-game dominance as well, as Corrin, Gazmarian for a third time, and then Miles all contributed goals in the last 15 minutes of the game, effectively shutting down FSHA.
The squad’s last game of the season is Saturday on the road against the Valencia Vikings.
