Girls’ Volleyball Program Head Mitch Kallick officially announced his resignation after his second season with the team on Nov. 4. The girls’ varsity volleyball team finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 13-15 and a league record of 2-8, and the 2023 season with a final record of 9-18 and a league record of 3-7 – both under Kallick. Kallick additionally oversaw the beach volleyball program and works as a private college recruiting coordinator.
Kallick played collegiately at New York University (NYU) and was inducted into the NYU Athletics Hall of Fame. Following his collegiate career, Kallick traveled overseas and briefly played at the professional level in Germany, Slovenia, Austria and Portugal. He worked as an assistant coach to a variety of collegiate programs – including NYU, California State University, Fullerton, University of Maryland and Central Michigan University, as well as a head coach at the University of Hartford – giving him 15 years of collegiate coaching experience under his belt.
Kallick said he is thankful for his time with the school and that he will continue supporting the team from afar in the upcoming years.
“I am so grateful for my experience at Harvard-Westlake and the opportunity to work for this incredible school and community,” said Kallick. “I would like to thank the administration and coaches for their guidance, and the students who gave everything to their teams. I will be rooting for the program’s continued success.”
Head of Athletics Terrence Barnum, on behalf of the athletics department, said he wishes Kallick the best following his departure.
“He is a valued member of our community, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Barnum said.
Barnum said when a position is available, the school advertises the opening and reviews potential candidates before making final decisions in finding a qualified replacement.
“Whenever we have an athletic program head opening, we post the job to our website as well as other job sites to attract candidates. Once we receive an application, we review it and make a decision whether the candidate should advance to the next round,” Barnum said. “Applications are reviewed by the athletic directors. Once we identify finalists, we bring them on campus for a final interview, where they meet with other coaches and administrators.”
