The Upper School Symphony and chamber orchestra performed in the Fall Orchestra Concert in Rugby Auditorium Nov. 15. The performance began with a series of duets, trios and solos and concluded with performances from the two groups.
Valentina Hernandez-Ruiz ’27 said that the concert felt very gratifying after all the work the performers put in.
“We go to class every day willing to work harder to perform our best for the concert,” Hernandez-Ruiz said. “We have three concerts a year and work so hard to ensure that we achieve our full potential of working as a team. My favorite moment in the performance is the moment the last note is ringing in the auditorium and we all look up at the conductor feeling the accomplishment of our dedication paying off.”
Jessica Ferrie ’26 said that the longer compositions in the concert helped form a sense of unity among the orchestra.
“I liked playing the pieces like the large group pieces,” Ferrie said. “I feel like they create a stronger sense of community.”
Kyle Henderson ’27 said that since this was his first performance at the upper school, he was nervous, but the performance helped him gain confidence.
“This was my first concert performing in the school’s Chamber Orchestra,” Henderson said. “Being new to the Upper School music program and being one of two sophomores in the class it took me a bit to feel confident but playing in this concert made me feel more comfortable.”
Yari Milakin ’27 said he appreciated the performance and the music performed by the students.
“I really loved the beautiful sound of the Clair De Lune rendition during the concert,” Milakin said. “It really highlighted the clarity and beauty of the composition. Also, the lighting was pretty fantastic during the song. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the music from the start to the end. It was truly an amazing performance through and through.”
