Tickets for performances of the upper school production of William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” went on sale Jan. 5. The play will take place Feb. 5-7 in Rugby Auditorium.

“We haven’t done a Shakespeare play at the Upper School in about seven or eight years,” said upper school performing arts teacher and play director Christopher Moore. “I thought it was time to tackle one, and ‘As You Like It’ is such a fun and relatable story for both our students and our audience.”

Moore said that he thinks Shakespeare’s stories are timeless.

“I love the moments when we are able to touch the audience’s hearts,” Moore said. “Let them see a little of themselves in the characters and stories.”

The students are taking a new approach to the play. Four cast members, Claire Nordstrom ’15, Dora Palmer ’15, Henry Platt ’17 and Dylan Schiffrin ’16, have created melodies to accompany Shakespeare’s lyrics, which will be performed live during the show.

Moore started casting for “As You Like It” before the previous musical, “Company,” had ended. Rehearsals for the play began two days after the musical closed.

The whole cast rehearses Monday through Thursday after school and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“Every rehearsal is exciting,” Moore said. “Because we are setting the play in a different time, a different world, each rehearsal is filled with discovery of character, story, and relationships.”
