Human Rights Watch Student Task Force hosted a screening of “He Named Me Malala”, the story of the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, Nov. 16 in Ahmanson Lecture Hall.

The documentary follows Malala, a Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot by the Taliban in Swat Valley for speaking out against Taliban’s prohibition of girls receiving an education. Since her recovery, Malala’s advocacy for girls being denied a formal education has grown into an international movement, and she was recognized as the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her struggle.

The Student Task Force provided students and faculty with snacks and sundaes, and spoke briefly about the club before the screening.

“The Human Rights Watch Student Task Force hopes to promote human rights for all children by helping students gain a deeper appreciation for human rights and developing young leaders and advocates who will become instrumental voices for social justice in the world beyond Harvard-Westlake,” club president Grace Pan ’16 said.
