Students and faculty played ice breaker games and participated in discussions from current events topics to upperclassmen giving advice and tips to underclassmen in the first Civitalks meetings today.
The program, in which groups of 18 students of mixed grades meet with two to three faculty members, aims to build community by discussing school and national issues.
Although the faculty are provided with ideas for what to do in the session, each group also has the ability to diverge from that and hold whatever discussion they see fit.
To account for the 45-minute session, which took place between fourth and fifth period, classes were 40 minutes long following Schedule D in students’ planners.
The schedule originally planned for Civitalks conflicted with a common lab double period, so Head of Upper School Audrius Barzdukas changed the day’s schedule to Schedule D.
The other six meetings, also on Wednesdays throughout the year, will fall on Oct. 9, Nov. 13, Dec. 11, Feb. 12, March 12 and April 9.
Schedule D is as follows:

1st Period: 8:00 – 8:40
2nd Period: 8:45– 9:25
3rd Period: 9:30 – 10:10
