The STEM committee at the middle school will host a field trip April 22 to SpaceX open to all middle school students. SpaceX is a space exploration company that develops and launches rockets and spacecraft.
Students will tour the facilities while learning about how the company functions.
“The purpose is to expose students to real world application of space science and rocket building,” science teacher Sandra Wolchok said.
Wolchok is organizing the trip with science teacher Alex Ras.
“Much of what they do is proprietary, so students will not be allowed to take notes or pictures,” Wolchok said. “We decided to go to SpaceX as they have taken over an integral role in supplying the United States efforts with the international space station. With the elimination of launches by NASA, space exploration in this country has become a private business.”
