Students and faculty lined up along the fire road Monday to applaud and salute the seniors as they walked towards the quad after the year’s final 1st & 3rd Wednesday assembly, creating what the school hopes will become a new annual tradition.
Also at the assembly, which was held on a Monday because of the AP exam schedule last week, “H-W Year in Review,” a video edited by Garret Robinson ’15, featured videos and pictures from important sports and performing arts events from the past year.
Head Prefect Sarah Winshel ’15 reminded students to love Harvard-Westlake even when the workload becomes overwhelming and to cherish the current moment.
“To my classmates, to my teachers, to the administration, don’t be afraid. Work together to turn your hopes into realities,” Winshel said. “I hope that every student in this room can realize their own accomplishments because going to Harvard-Westlake is something to be proud of.”
Teachers and administrators read comedic mean tweets written about them in a video by Noah Gains ’15 and Jacob Woronoff ’15, in the style of the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” segment, “Mean Tweets.”
“Father [J.] Young gives out condoms because those who can’t do, teach,” one of the tweets said.
“If you stand in front of a mirror and say, ‘joyful education’ three times, Mr. Commons will appear and want to eat lunch with you,” said another tweet read on camera by President Rick Commons.
Soloist James Hansen ’15 and the Harvard-Westlake Jazz Singers performed an a capella version of “I Need Your Love” by Calvin Harris a teaser for the Spring Choral Concert May 22 and May 23.
