Ben Platt ’11 teamed up with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on the new song “Found/Tonight,” which reached number two on iTunes Top Charts, to help the organization March For Our Lives.
The song is a mash-up including songs from Miranda’s production “Hamilton,” as well as “Dear Evan Hansen,” a Broadway show which Platt starred in and received a Tony award for.
In “The Story of Tonight” from “Hamilton,” several American revolutionaries sing about freedom and liberty. In “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen,” characters sing about acceptance and optimism. Both of these songs tie into the March For Our Lives message regarding gun reform.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the March For Our Lives event in Washington D.C. on March 24, aimed at changing the gun laws currently in effect. The victims of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida have also worked to organize the upcoming event and have received donations from Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney and Steven Spielberg.
