Visual arts teacher Cheri Gaulke produced and directed Gloria’s Call, a short film that will be screening at the Downtown Film Festival of Los Angeles Film Festival on Oct. 21.said her desire to bring more attention to female artists inspired her to make the movie.
“The idea for the film happened when I heard [Orenstein] speaking at an event sponsored by the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art,” Gaulke said. “Gloria is a colorful character, and her stories are fantastic. The women she met–Leonora Carrington, Leonor Fini, Meret Oppenheimer and Jane Graverol–were amazing artists who have not received the recognition that male artists such as Salvador Dali have received, yet their work is visionary, powerful and beautiful.”
