To spread holiday cheer, middle and upper school members of Cadence for a Cause performed Christmas music at the North Hollywood Senior Living Villas Dec. 14. The performance was also held in partnership with People Assisting the Homeless (PATH).

Cadence for a Cause was initially founded by Andrew Gong ’21 and Anna Gong ’18, who wanted to use their musical skills to help the Los Angeles community. The purpose of this concert was to create a sense of community in the senior home and promote holiday spirit, Andrew Gong said.

“[The goal of] this concert was really so that [the seniors] could feel the same excitement about the holidays as [we students] do,” pianist Andrew Gong said. “I think that music is a way to bridge the gap between young and old, and I always love seeing [the seniors’] happy faces after performing.”

After members of Middle School Symphony performed Christmas-themed pieces, four sophomore pianists performed duets.

“This concert gave me more experience performing, which is totally different from playing solo,” pianist Sally Ho ’21 said. “I liked learning new pieces, and I really enjoyed being able to make [the seniors’] day a little better.”
