Tardy students park in visitors’ spots in the Seaver parking lot in order to get to class on time, Director of Inter-Campus Security Kevin Giberson said.

“There are times when kids panic because they’re going to be late for a test, and so they just decide to park there,” Giberson said.

One security guard, who wished to remain anonymous, said that last Thursday a student drove up the path to Feldman-Horn claiming to only drop something off there.

“She drove up and I realized she didn’t come back until after first period. I told her not to do it again,” he said.

An anonymous student sometimes parks in visitors’ spots.

“I park there because sometimes I am running really late and because my first period class is Art History, so it saves time,” the student said.

There are signs posted in the visitors’ parking area stating “two hour parking” and instructing people to leave their keys with the receptionist so their car can be moved if needed, but no explicit warning that prohibits students.

“Generally, if a student has an injury, we accommodate them and let them park there for a short time,” Giberson said. “But for the most part, the parking is there for visitors and not students.”
“These parking issues are a lot more prevalent in the beginning of the year,” Giberson said. “They do start to calm down by November.”
