Current history teacher Ari Engelberg will trade his teaching duties at Harvard-Westlake to become CEO of Bright Star Schools next year. Since 2002, Engelberg has been a member of the Board of Directors of Bright Star, an organization that operates two-very high performing public charter schools in Central L.A. The organization plans on opening nine new schools over the next seven years, making the role of CEO a full time job.
As CEO, Engelberg will be dealing with all aspects of the organization that do not take place inside a classroom, including raising money and meeting with regulators at the L.A. Unified School District. Engelberg will continue to help coach the basketball team and stay involved in the school. After his job at Bright Star is complete, Engelberg plans to return to Harvard-Westlake in a teaching capacity.
âI will miss a lot about teaching at Harvard-Westlake,â Engelberg said. âMostly, Iâll miss the students who are so bright and good-humored and really make coming to work every day a lot of fun.â
