Ending what had been an undefeated run through the first four games of the season, the Wolverinesâ football team fell 17-10 to non-league opponent Alemany Oct. 3. The game was decided by a last-minute Alemany touchdown run.
In the first road game of the season, the Wolverines returned from Alemany with a record of 2-1-1. Nicky Firestone â11 scored the Wolverinesâ only touchdown with a 90-yard fumble recovery.
The score at halftime was 10-0 in favor of the home team, but three third-quarter Alemany turnovers allowed the Wolverines to tie the score after a field goal and Firestoneâs run.
Quarterback Sean Berman â09 completed 18 of 34 pass attempts to accumulate 138 yards. Berman, also the teamâs punter, managed to recover a botched punt snap and get off a 13-yard punt. The resulting Alemany series resulted in the deciding touchdown of the game.
TeRhon OâNeal â09, who has emerged as a team leader this season at the running back position, ran for a season-low 95 yards in the game.
The Wolverines play their next game Oct. 10 at Cathedral. They return on Saturday Oct. 18 to play St. Bernard as the centerpiece of the homecoming festibal.
