Sophomores in Chinese II talked to high school students in China via live webcam Monday. About 20 students spent approximately half an hour after school speaking in both Chinese and English with the students in China, using Skype, a website that allows the user to make phone calls over the internet. The conversation was an extra credit assignment for the Harvard-Westlake students.
“The goal is to learn about how students in China are doing,” teacher Binbin Wei said. “Theyâre in high school, just like our students.”
The students in China were from a high school affiliated with Remmin University, which Wei said is one of the countryâs best high schools. All of the Chinese II students also made Christmas cards for the students in China.
Wei said that in return, the students in China will make Chinese New Year cards for her Chinese II students.
