The boys’ varsity basketball team lost a CIF playoff game for the first time since 2008 as the Compton Centennial Apaches defeated the Wolverines 78-71 Friday night at Lynwood High School in the semifinal round.
The Wolverines took a four-point lead into halftime but the Apaches tied the game 63-63 with 3:30 left in the game. Compton guard Deonta Burton took over from there, scoring 10 points in Compton’s 15-8 run to end the game.
The Wolverines’ season might not be over, as it is yet to be determined whether the team will qualify for the Division III state playoffs.
