Jon and Sara Kutler’s lead gift, combined with donations made in memory of their son, Brendan Kutler ’10, who died in his sleep in December, will fund the creation of the Kutler Center for Independent Research and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Mudd Library will be renovated as part of the project to create a permanent home for the Center, according to the announcement.
Huybrechts did not say when construction would begin, but she said that the facility would bridge the library with the history department classrooms and offices on the top floor of Seaver Hall and would add 21st Century research facilities to the library.
History teacher Larry Klein, who led a history independent research program this year, will be the director of the Kutler Center, Huybrechts said.
The Center will have its own facility, faculty and curriculum, according to her announcement.
