Eleven AP Economics and AP Comparative Government students heard experts discuss China’s economy Feb. 26 at a conference at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angles hosted by the University of Southern California’s US-China Institute and sponsored in part by Harvard-Westlake’s Global Asia Initiative.

The conference focused on the health and future of the Chinese economy and assessed China’s economic ties with the US and others. About 150 persons attended the event, including analysts representing universities in both China and the United States. The topics discussed at the conference were “Human Capital” and “Paying for the future: Families and the Nation.” Conference attendees heard speeches given by professors from Stanford University, Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Southern California, as well as a representative of the International Food Research Institute.

Head of School Jeanne Huybrechts, AP Economics teacher Kent Nealis, and AP Comparative Government teacher Francine Werner also attended the event. Students and faculty ate lunch together in Chinatown after the conference ended.
