A 14-6 loss to the Division I reigning CIF Champion Mater Dei High School, on Tuesday, broke the boys’ water polo team’s three game winning streak, giving the team a 5-3 record thus far.
The Wolverines had wins against Murrietta Valley High School and Sacred Heart High School in Santa Barbara, and then went on later that week to take a 13-11 win against deemed rival La Canada.
Team leader Alec Zwaneveld ’12 and freshman phenom Morio Saito ’15 each had hat tricks in the win against La Canada. Two of Saito’s three goals took place within a minute of each other in the fourth quarter to give the Wolverines the lead in the game.
“Our younger players [have] stepped up, which is definitely going to be a theme for this season,” Zwaneveld told the Daily News. “We really need their support. They’re going to fill in spots that we don’t have permanently filled.”
The team will play its official homecoming game this Friday against Foothill High School, but due to construction it will not be held on campus.
