A match pitting two Harvard-Westlake girls’ doubles teams against each other Thursday at Los Angeles Valley College in individual league finals ended in a forfeit when team captain Kei Goldberg ’12 dislocated her shoulder and had to be taken by ambulance to Sherman Oaks Hospital where her shoulder was popped back into place under anesthesia.
“Every bump in the road in the ambulance on the way to the hospital made Kei scream so it took a really long time to get her there,” Kristina Park ’13 said.
Goldberg, who had missed most of the regular season after a shoulder injury last year, and her partner, Sophie Gunther’14 had to forfeit to the doubles team of Park and Taylor Coon’12, who will move on to individual CIF playoffs Nov. 17 in Santa Barbara.
Singles player Savannah de Montesquieu ’13 advanced to the first round of individual CIF playoffs after beating a singles player from Louisville. She will play Nov. 17 for the first round of CIF individual playoffs.
Margeaux Craske- Curtin ’14 was knocked out of playoffs by Louisville and will not get the chance to compete in Santa Barbara.
The first round of team CIF playoffs begins Nov. 10.
“It feels like all of our hard work is paying off,” Park said. “I feel so bad for Kei though because she was injured for most of the season and she was beginning to have the same role as she did last year and now can’t.”
