The boys’ soccer team fell yesterday against the Loyola Cubs in a close match on the road 0-1.
Both sides’ defenses played well but goalkeeper Wade Clement ’12 seemed to be the outright leader for the Wolverines last night.
The Wolverines conceded one goal to the Cubs in the 29th minute that came off forward Alex Stimpf’s shot.
“The goal that I gave up was a good shot, and after that, I was not going to let another one get by me, Loyola scoring again wasn’t an option,” Clement said.
And he was true to his word.
The Wolverine goalkeeper stopped multiple attempts by Loyola’s fluid offense to keep them within striking distance.
“Keeping them out of the net, I was hoping that would provide a spark for us,” Clement said.
In the end, the Wolverines just weren’t able to get a good enough shot on goal to tie the game up, thus falling to their Mission League rival in their first loss of league play.
The Wolverines now move to 3-1-0 in league and 13-2-3 overall. Their next match will be against Crespi on Friday.
