Doubles pairs Michael Genender ’15 and Harrison Kalt ’13 and Jamie West ’12 and Adam Williams ’12 both qualified for CIF Regional playoffs on Friday, May 18. Additionally, the tennis team as a whole qualified for CIF Playoffs, which begin on Wednesday, May 9.
The team finished 20-3 overall and won their 16th straight league championship after going 10-0 in league play. Two of the Wolverines losses this year came to University High School in Irvine and the other to Palos Verdes. The Wolverines beat Palos Verdes in the semi-final of CIF playoffs last year before falling to University in the championship match.
Co-captain Jackson Frons ’12 last week said that the Wolverines should be seeded at least fourth overall in Div. I but could be as high as second. He and fellow co-captain Jeffery Bu ’12 expressed optimism of meeting University, who is undefeated and expected to be the number one seed, in the championship round again if they play well in playoffs. However, the team would be a heavy underdog in the final, as University has won the last two CIF Championships and recently won the prestigious Ojai Valley Tournament.
