Placentia Valencia’s pitcher Zach Williams ended the baseball team’s season this year early, outplaying pitcher Jack Flahery’14, in the second round of playoffs today.
The upset ended 3-1 after Flaherty could not compete with Williams’ nine strikeouts and five hits allowed.
The first-seeded Wolverines failed to score any runs after the first inning.
“He was able to shut us down,” Flaherty said. “He outpitched me today.”
Valencia scored early, ending the fourth inning with three runs though the Wolverine defense shut out the Tigers for the remainder of the game.
The game ended the Wolverines’ highly anticipated season earlier than expected. The team ended with a 24-5-1 record overall and a league record of 9-2-1, winning league for the second consecutive year. Last year, the team lost in quarterfinals.
