An episode of “Real Life: the Musical,” featuring performing arts teacher Ted Walch will air on Friday, August 3. The reality TV show episode was originally scheduled for an earlier broadcast this summer on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
According to the show’s website, a team made up of a professional choreographer, music producers, and a vocal coach helps a person “surprise someone they love with an unexpected musical performance that says what they are really feeling.”
Nick Lieberman ’11 and former students of Walch performed a musical number they worked on for five days at a pep rally in January. OWN filmed the event, described as a “A Real High School Musical” on the program’s website, in Hamilton Gym.
Lieberman, who proposed the show cover Walch, said that Walch inspired him to follow his interests as a director in the filmmaking industry by giving him the chance to direct several Harvard-Westlake theater productions.
A camera crew from OWN also spent a day on campus filming Walch for the show along with interviewing Lieberman and President Thomas C. Hudnut. They visited his Cinema Studies Class and a rehearsal for “The Laramie Project,” the winter play that Walch directed.
