ESPNHS named runner Amy Weissenbach ’12 the Cal-Hi Sports Division III Female Athlete of the Year Friday, July 13.
Weissenbach won a state title in the 800-meter event to conclude her high school running career.
In her junior season, Weissenbach broke the national record in the 800 with a time of 2:02.40 in her second state title run, which led to her receiving the Gatorade National Girls’ Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award in 2011.
Weissenbach, however, fell short of qualifying for this summer’s Olympics after placing 25th out of 32 runners in her Olympic Trials race on June 22.
ESPNHS called her and teammate Cami Chapus ’12 “perhaps the best one-two distance running duo in state history.”
