Following an 83-63 defeat at the hands of El Camino Real in a consolation game for third place, the boys’ basketball team finished in fourth place at the Fairfax Tournament on Friday, June 30. The Wolverines advanced to the semifinals of the tournament and fell to Pasadena before facing El Camino Real.
The Wolverines beat Santa Monica and Chaminade during the first two rounds of the sixteen team tournament before being knocked out by Pasadena in the semifinals. Long Beach Poly eventually beat Pasadena in the final round to win the tournament championship.
The tournament featured 16 of the best basketball teams in the Los Angeles area such as Oaks Christian and Orange Lutheran as well as Mission League rivals Loyola and Alemany.
Derick Newton ’14 led the Wolverines with 26 points against El Camino Real, Bryan Polan ’14 scored 14 and Michael Sheng ’14 scored 3 points with 6 assists.
