Jack Flaherty ’14 will now have international gold to go with his CIF Division I Championship ring and his Player of the Year award, after the pitcher-infielder won the International Baseball Federation World Cup as a member of the United States U18 National baseball team in Taichung, Taiwan Sept. 8.
Flaherty, who was named to the final U.S. World Cup roster on Aug. 24, had one win, an 8-0 victory in the team’s opening game against Italy, in two pitching starts during the international tournament. The University of North Carolina commit also played third base as Team USA went 7-1 overall and defeated Japan 3-2 to win the gold medal.
The gold medalist was named CIF Division I and Los Angeles Times’ Player of the Year last year after leading the Wolverines to the CIF Division I Championship.
