The baseball team tied its three game series against Notre Dame High School on the road March 5 to give the team a 5-2-1 overall record and a 1-1-1 Mission League Record.

The squad first won 10-3 at an away game March 1. Outfielder Will Gasparino ’23 hit a home run, while pitcher Bryce Rainer ’24 hit a three-run home run to give the team a 7-3 lead by the sixth inning.

Pitcher Duncan Marsten ’24 has been unable to play in the season so far because of a torn ligament in his right elbow. Marsten, however, still regularly attends the team’s games. He said the squad eventually lost its last game in the series because it lacked the big plays that individual players had made in the first game.

The team then tied 3-3 at O’Malley Family Field March 2. The game stopped after the eighth inning because of poor lighting conditions. Center fielder Jacob Galloway ’22 had two runs batted in (RBIs) and shortstop Kai Caranto ’23 had one RBI. Pitcher Davis White ’23 scored two runs.

In the final game of the series, the team lost 9-8 on the road March 4. The squad was leading 8-4 up until the sixth inning, when Notre Dame scored five runs to usurp the lead from the Wolverines.

Baseball beat J Serra High School 3-0 to win the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) Division I championship last year, ending the season with an overall record of 29-4 and a 17-1 Mission League record. The team had previously lost 2-0 to Cypress High School in the 2019-2020 CIF-SS final.

The team faces St. Francis High School in its next three game series beginning March 8.
