Former Wolverine football lineman and NFL Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin ’08 left the Dolphins Thursday, reportedly due to personal issues after being pranked by his Miami teammates in the team cafeteria. The Harvard-Westlake Athletics Department issued a statement Friday voicing its support for the alumnus.
“Harvard-Westlake is extremely proud of Jonathan Martin and everything he accomplished as a student at our school,” the department said in the statement. “We remain supportive of him and his family.”
Before being drafted by the Dolphins in April of 2012, “Moose” Martin had been a key quarterback protector on the offensive line for the Wolverines and then the Stanford Cardinal.
Martin has not stated when he plans to return to the team. Martin’s incident has sparked questions over bullying and harassment in the Dolphins organization. According to the Washington Post and Fox Sports, Martin has been a repeat victim of bullying and harassment in his two years with the team.
