The defending CIF Champion Wolverine baseball team opened its season today with a 8-0 shutout victory over Westlake. The win marked the Wolverines’ first game in the Easton Tournament.
2013 CIF-SS and LA Times’ Player of the Year Jack Flaherty ’14 got the start for the team and threw six scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts before being relieved by Logan Simon ’14, who finished off the shutout. John Thomas ’16 got his first start as a catcher for the injured Matt Karo ’14.
The highlight of the game came when Flaherty stole home plate with Jacob Pardo ’14 at bat during a five run second inning that put the Wolverines ahead.
The team’s next game will be March 6 when they visit Birmingham High School for their second game of the Easton Tournament.
