The Washington Nationals honored former Wolverine pitcher Lucas Giolito ’12 as pitcher of the year in the Nationals’ minor league system.
Giolito, after a year of rehab on his elbow following Tommy John Surgery, went 10-2 with a 2.20 ERA for the Class A Hagerstown Suns, and paced the team with 110 strikeouts.
“It’s an absolute honor,” Giolito told the Washington Post. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was going into this year looking to build some innings up and work on my game and give the team a chance to win and just have fun.”
