Harvard-Westlake Parent’s Association (HWPA) held the first of eight Senior Appreciation Days for the Class of 2024 on Sept. 19. Parent volunteers passed out class sweatshirts and popsicles on behalf of the HWPA on the Quad during lunch.
Evette Um ’24 said the event allowed her to look forward to being in her last year at the school.
“[The event] was also exciting as it was another event that really grounded me into the reality that I am a senior,” Um said. “It’s so surreal to me that I’m a senior, and there is a bit of anxiety but mostly excitement.”
Clarissa Brown ’24 said she enjoyed the event as it provided a break from the stress she has already accumulated since the start of the year.
“I thought it was really nice of the parents to get us all senior hoodies to wear together and bond over the fact that we are seniors,” Brown said. “Although every senior is really stressed about college applications and the future, I feel like this event definitely helped remind us all that we should take time to still enjoy our senior year.”
HWPA Vice President Susan Welsh (Isabella ’22, Jack ’24) said she hopes the seniors know they are supported by the community as they send out their college applications.
“Some [seniors] came in seventh, some in eighth, some in ninth, even some in tenth, but all of them matter,” Welsh said. “We want them to feel so special as they are getting ready during college applications, especially this fall, to know how much we appreciate them.”
