The Model United Nations (MUN) team attended the BruinMUN conference Nov. 11-12 at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Partners Owen Huang ’24 and Zoe Kramar ’24 received a Commendation for their role as Kuwait. Duos Ethan Chen ’26 and Emma Tseng ’26, and Oona Sils ’26 and Isleen Lee ’26 were also awarded Commendations for their participation, both as dual delegates. Ryan Hung ’26 and Calder Glass ’26 won Outstanding Delegate, and Luke Madden ’24 received an Honorable Mention.
Tseng, who is new to Model UN this year, said she appreciates that the conferences allow people to educate themselves on the histories of various countries and global concerns.
“I think Model UN is great because it teaches participants to be cognizant of world issues,” Tseng said. “It is a great way to learn about the perspectives of different countries and people, and this awareness creates a greater understanding of the world as a whole. I like how fast-paced Model UN is.”
Tseng also said although there was a learning curve to Model UN, she came out of the tournament much more confident in her skills.
“Our club leaders and members are supportive and open to answering questions, so it is a welcoming environment for anyone who wants to join,” Tseng said. “Although I did not fully understand what [the] speeches and debates would look like going into it, my [dual-delegate] partner and I developed a deep knowledge of the topic and our country’s position. It was reassuring to have this information so that once we got into the flow, we could contribute.”
