Washington Nationals pitcher and former Wolverine Lucas Giolito ’12 was the starting pitcher for Team USA in the MLB Futures Game. He threw two scoreless innings for the United States, giving up two hits and striking out one batter.
The U.S. Futures Team defeated the World Futures Team 10-1 in Cincinnati.
The Futures Game is the predecessor to the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, and is meant to display the top prospects in Minor League Baseball.
Giolito, who was the 16th pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, is ranked as the number four overall prospect and the number one Minor League pitcher by MLB.com. This season for the Potomac Nationals, the Washington Nationals Single-A affiliate, Giolito has a 2.76 earned run average and 76 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched.
