Former Chronicle editor Nick Melvoin ’04 is currently running for the Los Angeles Unified School Board and is out-fundraising his opponent, incumbent Steve Zimmer.
Melvoin announced his candidacy in February and has raised $270,031 as of Dec. 31 while Zimmer has raised $85,392. In addition, Melvoin’s campaign has received about 895 individual donations and Zimmer has received 190, according to LA School Report.
District 4, which is Melvoin and Zimmer’s district, has had the most money raised of any district. The district covers the Westside of Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Hollywood and portions of the San Fernando Valley.
The primary election will be help March 7. A general election will be held on May 16 if no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes.
