A stolen vehicle suspect died during an officer-involved shooting seven miles from the Upper School around 4 pm yesterday.
Officers from the gang unit of the LAPD Van Nuys Station followed the suspected stolen vehicle on Sherman Way from Sepulveda, LAPD wrote in a press statement. The occupants of the stolen vehicle fired shots at the police and later collided into the light pole at Kester Avenue and Sherman Way.
After the collision, the police shot the driver after he got out of the vehicle. He later died from his injuries in the hospital. Police recovered two handguns, and the two women in the car were taken into custody for further investigation.
“[It was] kind of like surreal,” bystander Chris Rodriguez said in an interview with KABC. “I didn’t know if it was really happening. I’ve been at this church for 17 years and nothing like this has ever happened around this property.”
