School reopened today after closing for two days, due to poor air quality caused by recent fires in the area.

Yesterday Head of School Laura Ross announced the December Assessment Schedule would be amended, due to two school-day cancellations.  Because school is in session today, students will have a review day with no X periods and the reading day will be moved from Wednesday to Monday.

Assessments will be shifted over one day, starting on Tuesday and continuing through Friday with no additional reading day. If this is the case, all teachers will be available via email or GoogleHangouts from 9 to 4 to answer questions from students.

Teachers who are unable to finish covering material due to the closures will change assessments based on what they teach in class.

Students who were severely impacted by the fires were instructed to talk to their deans to make an alternative testing schedule.

“I know that it has been a stressful time for many of you,” Ross said in the email.

President Rick Commons notified parents, students, faculty and staff that school will be opened through the Emergency Notification System Thursday night.

“Firefighters appear to have gained the upper hand on the Skirball Fire and air quality around both the upper school and middle school has improved substantially,” Commons said in the message.

Commons also praised first responders for their efforts in the fire in the message.
