Students bought food from Slammin’ Sliders Food Truck on Jan. 26 for the first Food Truck Friday, a new monthly event created by Prefect Council. Prefects Ryan Stanford ’19 and Jaya Nayar ’20 headed the project.
The goal of Food Truck Fridays is to vary the type of food brought to campus. Though vendors have already been selected for the future, they will not be revealed until an order form is released each month.
“Jaya and I wanted to think of a fun tradition that we could implement at Harvard-Westlake,” Stanford said. “Food trucks always have a great turn out during Prefect Council events, so we wanted to maximize their presence on campus.”
Because food was not guaranteed for purchase the day of, students were encouraged to pre-order online.
“We received 142 pre orders, and are extremely pleased,” Nayar said. “It is a really good turnout for the first time, and students responded really well!”
Students said they enjoyed the first Food Truck Friday.
“The food truck was a great idea, and even though I didn’t pre order, it was very convenient,” Tyler Kim ’20 said. “It was also delicious, and I am looking forward to the next Food Truck Friday.”
Prefect council has been developing the project since December.
“Working on a long term project with outside vendors has been an invaluable learning experience,” Stanford said. “We’ve already heard lots of positivity in response, and we couldn’t have been more excited to see the finished product.”
