Students gathered in the lounge during break to watch their teachers and fellow classmates perform in the annual Halloween costume contest and eat free Cinnabons provided by Prefect Council members Oct. 31. In addition, different Halloween movies played in Ahmanson Hall throughout the day.

There were four categories for the costume contest: “Most creative,” “Funniest,” “Scariest,” and “Best overall.” Winner of the “Most creative” costume, Haley Levin, said she had fun participating in the contest and thinking of a costume idea.

“I love Charlie Brown, and “The Great Pumpkin of Charlie Brown” is my favorite movie,” Levin said. “I loved the Halloween contest – Dahlia [Low ’20] and Conner [Corley ’20] were so funny and the teachers always go all out.”

Dressed up as Ryan and Sharpay Evans, respectively, the duo that won “Best overall,” Corley and Low, said they have always loved “High School Musical” and it was therefore easy for them to come up with a costume idea.

Members of the audience said they also enjoyed watching their teachers and classmates show off their costumes.

“I loved it,” Katherine Kihiczak ’21 said. “It was fun from start to finish.”

Members of Prefect Council decided to hold the costume contest and other events to help spread the Halloween spirit and take pressure off students and faculty. Sophomore prefect Chelsea Cho ’21 said they started planning the Halloween activities right after Homecoming.

“Around this time everyone is stressing out about college, so we wanted to bring more Halloween spirit [and] more lightheartedness, and wanted students to support other students,” Cho said.
