English teacher Sara Cohen gave a speech to seniors during the Senior Ceremony Sunday on Ted Slavin field. Each senior was presented with a ring or pin commemorating their time at the school.
Senior George Caras ’20 said that he thought that Cohen’s speech was insightful and interesting.
“Dr. Cohen is one of my favorite teachers at Harvard-Westlake and listening to her brought back great memories exploring Frankenstein in her class. The special part about her speech was even though we spent hours analyzing the text, Dr. Cohen found another meaningful way to share memorable insights in the novel,” Caras said.
Prefect Speech Landon Poon
Senior Prefect Landon Poon ’20 spoke about the importance of discovering who each person is as an individual during their time in high school and how their experiences within their high school careers helped shape their personality and morals into the way that they are today.
Jazz Choir
Junior and senior members of the Jazz Choir performed a selection of songs before rings and pins were distributed to all of the seniors.
Prefect Speeches Clay Skaggs and Dahlia Low
Senior Prefect Clay Skaggs ’20 spoke about the meaning of our school motto, ‘Possunt Quia Posse Videntur,’ which translates to ‘they can because they think they can.’ Skaggs mentioned how students don’t typically hear this phrase despite its significant meaning.
Senior Prefect Dahlia Low ‘20 spoke of how the people she had met during her time at the school became her closest friends.
