The girls’ soccer team defeated Corona Centennial High School 4-0 away in their second round of the CIF playoffs on Feb. 15th.
During their first round of the CIF playoffs, the team beat Sunny Hills High School 2-0. The Wolverines got off to a quick start with forward Daniela Quintero ’22 scoring to bring the lead to 1-0. Then, forward Brooke Stanford ‘21 scored to make the score 2-0. Sunny Hills was never able to recover from this lead. In their game against Corona Centennial, the Wolverines started the game off with a goal from Quintero, to make the score 1-0. Then forward defender Natalie Barnouw ‘21 scored twice throughout the Corona Centennial game making the score 3-0. Then forward Sophia Haynes ‘22 sealed the victory with a goal making the score 4-0.
Haynes said the secret to the team’s success in playoffs is a good mindset.
“We went into the game with a positive mindset, and a good growth mindset that we didn’t need to do much to win,” Haynes said. “This carried through into our play and led to a more lighthearted approach to the game.”
The Wolverines hope to carry this momentum into their next game against Upland High School at Upland, on Feb. 19th.
