In its home opener, the boys’ varsity basketball squad defeated Notre Dame 70-48 with four players in double figures on the night.
Big men Zena Edosomwan ’12 and Derick Newton ’14 each had 15 points in the contest and guards Francis Hyde ’13 and Jay Kleinbart ’12 added 12 and 11, respectively.
“We were moving the ball and had a solid effort tonight offensively,” Edosomwan said. “Everybody was scoring, and it was a beautifully played game.”
The Wolverines got off to an early 12-3 lead and did not look back. Their lead hovered at around 20 points in the second half with help defensively from both Edosomwan and Newton who combined for over ten blocks.
“I have felt that I need to be a better defensive player, and if I’m not always scoring, I need to affect the game in different ways mostly by blocking and rebounding,” Edosomwan said.
The win extends the team’s undefeated league record after beating St. Francis 64-37 Wednesday. The boys will continue their league stint this upcoming Wednesday against Chaminade, which will be followed by the first of two matchups this year against the rival Loyola Cubs.
