The regular season of the varsity football team came to an end on Friday, Nov. 2, after the Wolverines fell to Serra 35-8. However, the entire season of the Wolverines is not over yet.
The loss dropped the Wolverines to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in league. The Wolverines, who would have been guaranteed a playoff spot if they finished in third place in the Mission League, end the season in fourth place in league standings.
However, the Wolverines received an at large bid to the playoffs. It will be the first time the team has participated in the playoffs since 2009.
Offensively, the Wolverines were shut out for the entire game until quarterback Chad Kanoff ’13 hit Clinton Hooks ’13 in the end zone on the on a 4th and goal for a six yard touchdown on the team’s final drive.
Defensively, the Wolverines surrendered four touchdowns in the first half, but held the Cavaliers to one in the second half. The Wolverines outscored Serra 8-7 in the second half. A converted two-point conversion on a quarterback run from Kanoff following the team’s late touchdown accounted for the one point difference.
