Prefect Council hosted a spring Field Day on March 21. The event featured a food truck, life-sized hamster balls, flag football, a soccer penalty shootout and an obstacle course. South Asian Student Alliance (SASA) also hosted their Holi Celebration next to the track, where students threw colored powder in commemoration of the coming of spring.
Head Prefect Sasha Aghnatios ’25 said Prefect Council brought in more components to the event to ensure students could participate in various activities.
“Every Field Day requires a lot more planning than people tend to think,” Aghnatios said. “The tricky bit is making sure that people stay engaged throughout the entirety of the day, and I think we managed to do a really good job of that this time around. We wanted to spice things up this time, and in addition to the traditional obstacle course and In-N-Out Truck, we got permission to bring in the Zorb Balls and the gaga pits. I think this might have been my favorite Field Day at Harvard-Westlake.”
SASA leader Sahana Gupta ’26 said she enjoyed hosting the Holi celebration because it allowed students to participate in both the Field Day and spread awareness about South Asian traditions.
“I think the best part about the Holi celebration this year was the amount of people that wanted to participate with their friends,” Gupta said. “Having the event during Field Day meant there was more time for everyone to have lunch, hang out with friends and be involved with this event. Since Holi is such a big and important holiday in a lot of South Asian cultures, it was great that so many people wanted to learn about and be part of it at school as well.”
Callum MacLachlan ’26, who attended the event, said the Field Day was memorable because of all the fun he had throughout the day.
“The Field Day was an overall success for the Harvard-Westlake community,” MacLachlan said. “The Spikeball nets were a nice touch that was nostalgic for me and allowed me to have a great time. The In-N-Out truck was also great, even though it ran out of burgers at the end. Another event that was fun was the colored powder throwing zone. I even found blue dust in my ears at the beginning of spring break.”
