In the semifinals of the Torrance Tournament, the varsity boys’ basketball team lost their first game of the season 80-61 at the hands of arch-rival Loyola on Friday.
The Cubs took a double-digit lead in the first quarter which they would never surrender. Forward Derick Newton ’14 led the Wolverines with 29 points, while point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright led the Cubs with 17.
The team is scheduled to face Loyola next on Jan. 16 in their first meeting of two in league competition.
Now 2-1 on the season, the Wolverines will play for third place in the tournament against Fairfax on Dec. 1.
